The Spanish specialist emphasized that this date is of great importance to him.
"If I had the option to choose which opponent to face in my thousandth game, I would undoubtedly choose Liverpool. This competition has been a key part of my entire career in England," Guardiola said in an interview with the club's press service.
According to Pep, during his years in England, he understood football not only through tactics but also through emotions. "In this country, I spent more time than anywhere else. "Barcelona was a school for me - I was both a player and a coach there. Bayern, however, offered a different perspective. But the competition in England is different - every game here is a test," said the coach.
Guardiola considers the struggle with "Liverpool" and its head coach Jürgen Klopp not just as a sporting competition, but as part of professional growth. "The competition with Klopp was a big school for us. Their team constantly put pressure on us, which gave us new motivation. "Thanks to this competition, City has become an even stronger team," he said.
The Spanish manager also addressed the instability in the Premier League, highlighting how quickly public opinion changes: "A week ago, Liverpool faced criticism after six defeats. Then they won two - everyone started praising them again. Such things always happen in football. The main thing is to accept this process correctly and not go astray."

In his opinion, these two teams have demonstrated the strongest competition in English football in recent years. "This is a great motivation not only for the fans, but also for me as a coach.
