Ruben Neves comments on Portugal's defeat

Ruben Neves speaks about Portugal's defeat
Portugal's national team midfielder Ruben Neves gave an interview to journalists following the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Ireland (0-2). The Portuguese team was considered the clear favorite heading into the away match, but luck was not on their side this time.

In the match, Ireland's striker Troy Parrott scored twice. Additionally, Portugal's captain Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off in the 61st minute.

"It was a very tough game. We knew playing in Ireland wouldn’t be easy, but the situation turned out to be even more challenging than expected.

We made mistakes in our passes, performed poorly in set-piece situations, especially in the first half. We didn’t know how to counter the Irish passes, and that caused unnecessary panic," Neves said in his interview.

On Sunday, Portugal will host Armenia in the final round of the qualifiers.
