Gattuso: "We Were Scared"

Italy national team head coach Gennaro Gattuso commented on the second-half failure in the match against Norway (1-4). "Gli Azzurri" scored first in the 11th minute thanks to a goal by Francesco Pio Esposito.

The visitors equalized in the 63rd minute through Antonio Nusa, followed by Erling Haaland's brace in the 78th and 80th minutes. In added time, Norwegian player Jørgen Larsen completely shattered the morale of the Italian team.

"In the first half, we pressed correctly and positioned ourselves effectively. However, after the break, we lost possession too often and left open spaces for Norway.

We should have continued with the successful approach from the first half, but we became fearful as Norway increased their scoring opportunities. We were scared.

We need to improve in this regard," Gattuso said in an interview with RAI Sport. The Norwegian national team secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and claimed first place in the group.
