Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed the complex process that led to the dismissal of the team's former coach, Xavi Hernandez. According to the club head, the coach's controversial statements influenced his final decision.
Trust and two years
Laporta stated that Xavi initially announced his departure at the end of the season. However, shortly after, he met with the president and requested a review of the situation. That's when the main problem began.
"I asked him: 'Are you sure about the team?' He replied: "I am 100 percent sure that we will win with these players." But just a week later, I heard that I needed two more years to build a strong squad. At that moment, I asked myself, 'What's actually happening?' BarcaTimes quoted Laporta as saying.
Transfer Requirements
The president added that after this, Xavi contacted the club's sports director, Deco, demanding urgent new transfers for the team and obtaining additional information about some players. This contradicted his previous statement of "100 percent confidence."
Final decision
Joan Laporta noted her high regard for the former coach. However, such contradictory and constantly changing opinions given by the coach made it very difficult for the club manager to make a management decision, and as a result, the need arose to change the team's coach.
