According to The Athletic, the relationship between the team's leading winger, Vinicius Junior, and head coach Xabi Alonso has severely deteriorated. This disagreement is directly affecting a number of processes at the club, including the player's contract extension negotiations.
According to reports, Vinicius is in no hurry to sign the agreement, which is expected to be extended this summer. The reason is that he openly stated that his relationship with Alonso is not at the level he wanted.
Beginning of the debate - 0:4 defeat to PSG
The root of the internal conflict arose after a heavy 0-4 defeat to PSG in the World Cup. It is said that on the eve of that match, Alonso planned to keep Vinicius on the bench, but forced him to play on the right wing due to injuries in the team.
In just five of the subsequent 17 matches, the Brazilian played the full match. Vinicius, however, perceives this as self-deprecation and a decline in confidence.
The situation worsened again after Barcelona's match
According to reports, Vinicius's reaction to the intense emotions and controversial situation during the 2-1 derby against Barcelona sparked considerable discussion at the club. The fact that he didn't mention Alonso in the apology video that day has been interpreted by some as "a hint of internal conflict."
Alonso is trying to ease the situation
Xabi Alonso also stated that the situation is exaggerated and that there is no personal conflict:
"This is a rotation policy. In the team, we make tactical decisions based on each player," the specialist said.
However, it is suspected that the ice between the Spanish and Brazilian footballer has affected the atmosphere within the club and complicated contract negotiations.
Many experts suggest that if the situation isn't resolved, Vinicius's future at Real Madrid could also be at risk.
