Guardiola Explains Why He Almost Completely Changed the Lineup

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola made nearly a full lineup change ahead of the UEFA Champions League match against Bayer. The Spanish coach made ten changes from the lineup that suffered a 1-2 loss to Newcastle last Saturday.

Only defensive midfielder Nico González retained his spot in the starting XI. "I wanted to make 11 changes, but I did not have the right eleventh player available in my reserves.

We have 22 players in our squad, not just 11. There are many matches ahead, and we need fresh energy.

I want to give every player an opportunity; they are here at Manchester City because they are good enough to play. This is my decision," Guardiola told TNT Sports in an interview.

The match between Manchester City and Bayer is set to kick off at 11:00 PM Moscow time.
