Szczesny Explains Reason for Ending His Career

Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny recalled how he made the decision to end his football career in 2024. Late last summer, the Polish footballer announced his retirement after mutually terminating his contract with Juventus ahead of schedule.

However, soon after, Barcelona contacted him and managed to convince him to return. As a result, he donned his goalkeeper gloves again and returned to the field in October.

"It was not about losing interest in football. The offers I received were not inspiring.

I did not want to continue playing just for money. My intuition told me to decline those offers," said Szczęsny.

He also mentioned that he spoke with Robert Lewandowski before deciding to retire: "I didn’t want to play for any other club," he said. "I think in the autumn, Lewandowski sensed that Barcelona might change my mind," the goalkeeper added.
