Celta Vigo Capitalizes on Opportunities to Defeat Athletic Club

In the 16th round of La Liga, Celta defeated Athletic 2-0 at home. The hosts primarily focused on defense, but managed to convert two of their mere three shots on target into goals.

After a quiet first half, Celta quickly changed the outcome after the break. In the 48th minute, Xavi Rueda's cross from the wing was finished with a precise header from Williot Swedberg to make it 1-0.

Eight minutes later, visiting defender Dani Vivian made a costly error, which allowed Jørnes El-Abdellaoui to chip the ball over the goalkeeper, bringing the score to 2-0. Athletic soon earned a chance to score from the penalty spot, but Nico Williams failed to outmaneuver the goalkeeper with his shot.

The visitors had another near-miss when Urko Isseta's strike hit the post. Following this victory, Celta climbed to 8th place in the league standings.
