The La Liga match involving Real Madrid was once again marked by a controversial refereeing decision. In the 88th minute of the game against Alaves, Vinicius Junior broke into the penalty area and fell after colliding with an opponent.
The referee stated there was no foul, and the VAR room officials upheld the decision. However, according to Archivo VAR, the referees erred by not awarding a penalty, asserting that the Brazilian player was indeed fouled.
Sources indicate that the video assistants should have recommended the referee review the incident, but for unknown reasons, they did not do so. By that moment, Real Madrid was leading 2–1, and the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
