The decisive final match of the Primera Division playoffs took place in Argentina. “Estudiantes,” which had finished only eighth in the regular season during the “Clausura” stage of the season, unexpectedly claimed the championship title.
In the final, “Estudiantes,” featuring the experienced Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, defeated “Racing Avellaneda” in a penalty shootout. Both regular time and extra time ended in a draw, but in the penalty shootout, “Estudiantes” triumphed with a 5–4 victory.
