AC Milan marks 126th anniversary

December 16, 1899, marks the founding date of one of Europe’s most prestigious football clubs, AC Milan. The club was established by British individual Alfred Edwards with the support of local Italians.

The team’s first head coach was also an Englishman, Herbert Kilpin, who chose the club's iconic colors—black and red. Black symbolized danger for opponents, while red represented the symbolic "devil."

As for the emblem, a different approach was taken: the club adopted the coat of arms of the city of Milan in shield form. For this reason, during some of the most glorious periods in the club’s history, AC Milan became renowned for its strong defense.

AC Milan has won the Italian championship 19 times and has also claimed the Champions Cup or UEFA Champions League title seven times.
