FIFA has officially announced the prize pool for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament, which will feature 48 national teams in a new format, is expected to become the largest in history not only in terms of sports but also financially.
The biggest prize, naturally, will go to the champion team. The World Cup-winning team will take home $50 million in prize money, a significantly higher amount compared to previous tournaments.
The runner-up, finishing second in the final, will receive $33 million. The team securing third place will be awarded $29 million, while the fourth-place team will earn $27 million in prize money.
Teams that reach the quarterfinals, finishing in 5th to 8th place, will each receive $19 million. Teams ending the tournament in 9th to 16th place will earn $15 million each.
Even those teams that fail to make it past the group stage but participate adequately will not be overlooked. Teams ranked 17th to 32nd will receive $11 million each, while those finishing in 33rd to 48th place will be awarded $9 million each.
According to FIFA, this substantial prize pool aims to enhance competition in global football, boost motivation for national teams, and strengthen the global prestige of the tournament. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is anticipated to be a true celebration of football.
