PSG Matches Guardiola-Era Record with Safonov's Participation


On Wednesday, PSG became the Intercontinental Cup champion. The team, coached by Luis Enrique, defeated Brazil's Flamengo in the final via a penalty shootout.

The match was decided by Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who saved four penalty shots in the shootout. As a result, PSG won a total of six trophies in the 2025 calendar year.

The Parisian club claimed victory in the French Championship, French Cup, French Super Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup. PSG thus became the second team among Europe's top divisions to win six trophies in a single calendar year.

The first team to achieve such a feat was Barcelona under Pep Guardiola in 2009.
