Safonov played in the final with a broken hand
Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who plays for France's PSG club, reportedly played with a broken hand during the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final. This was revealed by the Paris club’s press service.

It should be noted that the final match between PSG and Brazil’s Flamengo was held on December 17. After regular and extra time ended without a winner, PSG triumphed in the penalty shootout.

Safonov made four saves during the penalty shootout, playing a decisive role in his team’s victory. Reports indicate that during the match against Flamengo, Safonov sustained an injury to the palm of his left hand, which was diagnosed as a fracture.

The Russian footballer is expected to recover in approximately three to four weeks. Safonov has been playing for PSG since the summer of 2024.

During this time, he has won six trophies with the team, including a Champions League title.
