In the Iranian league’s 15th-round match held in Tehran, Esteghlal hosted Gol Gohar. Despite strong fan support, the home side suffered a narrow defeat and dropped more points.
The game was decided in the first half. In the 37th minute, Shahrabadi put the visitors ahead with a precise finish, and the score remained unchanged until full time. Esteghlal pushed for an equalizer after the break, but their attacks lacked end product.
Uzbek midfielder Jaloliddin Masharipov, named in the squad after a five-month break, stayed on the bench and did not feature. His absence is also seen as one of the factors that limited the team’s attacking threat.
Winless in their last four matches, Esteghlal dropped to 6th place with 22 points after this defeat. Gol Gohar, meanwhile, moved up to 4th on 23 points thanks to a crucial win.
