In the middle of the second half, Oliver Burke launched two dangerous attacks in a row, but the goalkeeper kept his team in it. In the 69th minute, Benedikt Hollerbach doubled Mainz’s lead — 0:2. Soon after, he could have sealed the game on the counter, but the ball hit the post.
In the 77th minute, Jeong Woo-yeong headed in a cross from Derek Köhn to cut the deficit — 1:2. Three minutes later, András Schäfer also struck the post. In the end, Union’s pressure paid off: Danilo Doekhi equalized after a pass from Köhn, and the match finished 2:2.
After the draw, Mainz remained bottom of the table, while Union sit in 9th place.
