The captain of the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin, has once again written his name in golden letters in the history of the National Hockey League. In the NHL regular season game against the Nashville Predators, the Russian forward scored a puck, achieving a unique result.
This goal was Ovechkin's 20th goal of the current season. According to the league's press service, the capital club's leader has become the only player to score at least 20 pucks in 21 consecutive seasons since the start of his career. This result is an example not only of stability, but also of maintaining a high level over the years.
At the same time, Ovechkin crossed another historical boundary. He became the third player in NHL history to score 20 shots in less than 46 games in a season among players over 40 years old. Previously, such a result was achieved only by legendary figures - Gordi Hou (in 43 matches in the 1968/1969 season and in 46 matches in the 1970/1971 season) and Johnny Buswick (in 42 matches in the 1975/1976 season).
This statistic proves once again that Ovechkin is not only a long-lived player, but also a player who has played at the elite level for years. Age change, increased competition - nothing can stop him. Ovechkin is still the main threat on the ice.
For the record, Ovechkin has played in 1537 games throughout his NHL career, recording 917 assists and 745 assists. These figures are already legendary, but they haven't stopped yet.
In short, Ovechkin is not just a hockey player. This period. And this period is not over yet.
