The famous Nigerian UFC fighter Kamaru Usman has further increased the interest of his fans by openly stating his plans for 2026. From his words it became clear that Usman intends to start next year not with a simple “fight for the belt”, but with a grand scenario - the dream of becoming a champion in two weight categories.
According to Usman, the first and most important step is to defeat Islam Makhachev. The Nigerian fighter wants to see himself as a welterweight champion, and this goal is put in the first place in his plan for 2026.
“First, I will defeat Islam Makhachev and become a welterweight champion,” Usman said, clearly explaining the next stage. According to his plan, once the first belt is won, he will then aim for another step up - middleweight. That is, Usman does not intend to "limit his career to one belt."
Most interestingly, he is looking forward to another big fight at the end of the year: against Khamzat Chimaev. According to Usman's plan, he wants to defeat Chimaev by the end of 2026 and end his career as a two-weight champion. This is a very rare scenario in the world of fighting, which not everyone can do.
"Honestly, I want to hear people say, 'Wow, I can't believe you did that,'" the Nigerian added. That is, he wants not only a victory, but also a historical "fantasy" - the goal here is clear: to leave a mark.
Meanwhile, the situation is also taking an interesting turn. These days, the name of Ian Harry is also being mentioned a lot as a possible opponent for Islam Makhachev. But Kamaru Usman is also said to be among the main contenders for the championship. So, the queues for the belt are not "on paper" - in reality, they are very tight.
In short, Usman wants to turn 2026 into a "big raid": first Makhachev, then the second belt, and then Chimaev. If he does even half of what he says - there will be no time for boredom in the Octagon in 2026.
