Rumors have resurfaced about the possibility of famous Dutch striker Cody Gakpo leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season. According to journalist Wilson Cox, the Merseyside club is seriously discussing the option of selling the 26-year-old in the summer.
Having failed to retain their championship title this season, Liverpool's management plans to conduct a major "revision" of the squad before next season. That is, not only cosmetic changes are expected in the team - a real "reconstruction." According to the source, Gakpo is also among the first candidates to leave the club.
Gakpo's path is well known to football fans: he was raised at PSV, one of the strongest clubs in the Netherlands, and started his professional career there. Liverpool signed him in January 2023 for €42 million, with a contract valid until June 30, 2030.
This season, Cody has made 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists. It's not a bad indicator for a striker, but at Liverpool's level, sometimes even a "sufficient" score opens the door to sales - there's less romance in football, more calculation.
Another interesting point has been added to this story: recently, Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov, playing for Manchester City against Gakpo in the English Premier League, prevented him from breathing freely towards the goal. Husanov's intense struggle, positioning, and time "stealing" became, as fans say, a "regime" for the striker.
One of the most touching episodes occurred during these struggles: Abdukodir received a blow to the face during the duel. It was noted that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's knee touched Khusanov's face during a crucial moment.
