Trump's sharp response fueled the debate surrounding the Iranian national team

US President Donald Trump reacted rather coldly, even harshly, to discussions about whether the Iranian national team could participate in the 2026 World Cup. According to him, this issue does not interest him at all. The American leader described Iran as a severely damaged, weakened state, stating that its power is declining.

"I'm not interested in this at all. I think Iran is a crushed and defeated country. Their power is coming to an end," the US President said.

Trump's statement is perceived not simply as a sporting comment, but as a sharp signal against the backdrop of the difficult political climate between the US and Iran. Because in recent days, following tensions between the two countries, various speculations, concerns, and even talks about boycotts regarding Iran's participation in the World Cup have intensified.

At the same time, a completely different position was expressed by Iran. The Iranian ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, emphasized that the country's national team will participate in the World Cup, as this right was obtained by the national team based on legal and sporting principles. That is, for now, Iran's official position seems to be on the side of participating in the competition, not withdrawing from it.

It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This means that the participation of the Iranian national team is no longer just a sporting topic - it is now closely tied to geopolitical disputes, security, and international relations.

In short, there are two scenes in the current situation: on one side Trump's extremely cold and harsh statement, and on the other side Iran's firm gesture about going to the tournament. So, the final point on this topic has not yet been drawn. However, one thing is certain - until the 2026 World Cup, the debates surrounding the Iranian national team will intensify further.
