Gianni Infantino announced that the Iran national team's participation in the 2026 World Cup has been officially confirmed. According to him, the national team has retained its right to participate in the tournament.
The FIFA president emphasized that despite the current geopolitical situation, football must continue. He expressed hope that the situation would stabilize before the competition begins:
“Iran will participate in the World Cup. This is certain. We hope that the situation stabilizes by the time the tournament starts,” said Infantino.
Infantino also noted that the Iranian national team should take the field and represent their country with dignity. He specifically emphasized that the players' primary desire is to play and that sports should stand above politics:
"The national team should come and represent their country with dignity. The players want to play. Sport should be separate from politics," said Infantino.
For information, the Iran national team has been placed in a group with the Belgium national team, Egypt national team, and New Zealand national team during the group stage.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Currently, all attention is focused on preparations for the tournament, as the football world awaits another major sporting celebration.
