Information has emerged that Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez has admitted to making mistakes in his decisions regarding changes in the head coach position. He believes the coaching change was not made at the right time and negatively impacted subsequent processes.
Xabi Alonso left the team on January 12 after the 2-3 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Alvaro Arbeloa took his place.
According to the publication "ABC", Perez initially wanted to dismiss Alonso earlier, in early December, after the 1-2 defeat against Celta. However, club general director Jose Angel Sanchez advised against making a hasty decision. As a result, a delay occurred, which further complicated Arbeloa's task.
Perez emphasizes that he values Arbeloa's work and treats him with respect, but there are no plans to keep him as head coach next season. In his opinion, neither Alonso nor Arbeloa has delivered the high level of results expected from the team.
While the club leader admits the team is playing better than in the last two seasons, he believes a top-level coach is needed for a real leap forward. Therefore, along with summer transfers, the coaching issue is expected to be thoroughly analyzed.
At the same time, no major revolution in the squad is planned. The main focus will be on strengthening the central and right-back positions, as well as the midfield line.
Real Madrid is currently considering a number of transfer options for the future. Among them, the possibility of bringing back Nico Paz from Como and Victor Muñoz from Osasuna is being explored. Endrick, who is on loan at Lyon, is also planned to return.
Some young players, including Franco Mastantuono, may be sent out on loan, while Gonzalo Garcia might be sold with a buy-back option.
Currently, Real Madrid is second in La Liga with 73 points after 32 rounds. The team is 6 points behind Barcelona, but the Catalans have played one game less.
