“Give the championship to Mikel Arteta”: How did Guardiola respond?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has firmly rejected calls for Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta to be "given" the Premier League title, emphasizing that success in the league is earned through merit rather than charity. Responding to suggestions that Arsenal deserves the trophy, Guardiola challenged his rivals to beat him on the pitch, asserting that he has never been handed anything for free in his career. He dismissed the idea of awarding titles out of pity or for "finishing second beautifully," making it clear that his hunger for victory remains undiminished. The statement serves as a stern reminder that the title race remains a fierce battle where results, not emotions, will ultimately decide the champion.
As the Premier League title race has reached a boiling point, Manchester City head coach Josep Guardiola has made a sharp statement. He gave a clear and firm response to Arsenal fans’ calls to “give the title to Mikel Arteta.”
The Spanish coach stressed that nothing is given away for free to anyone in this league. According to him, all success is earned through hard work, discipline and fight.
“Should I let him win? This is not charity, this is the Premier League. No one has given me anything; I have taken everything myself. If Arteta wants the title, he knows where I am. Think about beating me on the pitch, not pushing me aside. I am not tired of winning”, Guardiola said.
He also questioned those calling Arsenal worthy of the title: “They say Arsenal deserve the title. Why deserve it? Because they finished second nicely? Trophies are not handed out out of mercy. If you do not want my victories — stop me. It is all very simple.”
As is known, the main battle for the title is currently taking place between Arsenal and Manchester City. The other teams have already been ruled out of the race long before now.
In short, Guardiola sent a clear signal: emotions do not decide here, results do. If you want the title — you have to take it, not ask for it.
