«Milan» midfielder Luka Modrich will not return to the pitch for the remainder of the current season. The experienced player has been sidelined due to a serious cheekbone injury, and this news came as an unexpected blow to the team's fans.
The incident occurred during the Serie A Matchday 34 fixture against «Juventus» (0:0). During an aerial challenge, Modrich collided with opposing player Manuel Locatelli. Following this, he received medical attention on the pitch and was substituted in the 80th minute.
According to the Croatian publication Jutarnji list, the player was diagnosed with a double fracture of the cheekbone. This will significantly prolong the recovery process. This information was also confirmed by well-known insider Fabrizio Romano.
Currently, there is a possibility that the 40-year-old footballer will undergo surgery. Consequently, he will be unable to participate in «Milan»'s remaining matches of the season.
At the same time, there is a positive aspect: Modrich is expected to recover by the 2026 World Cup. He may even take to the field in the tournament wearing a special protective mask.
