Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has shared his thoughts on the development of the club's young talent, Rio Ngumoha. He warned against viewing the 17-year-old player as Mohamed Salah's replacement and putting great pressure on him. Goal.com reports this.
Ngumoha has already managed to show himself at Anfield this season, appearing in 25 matches across all competitions and opening his scoring account in the Premier League. The winger, purchased from Chelsea in 2024, is expected to become a main star for the Merseyside club in the future.
Joe Cole emphasized that the young player must be managed with care. Although Salah is expected to leave the team as a free agent in the summer, it would be wrong to task Ngumoha with immediately replacing him.
Cole expressed confidence that the club management and coach Arne Slot know the player's mentality well and will create the right plan for his development.
Additionally, the former player suggested that Liverpool might consider more experienced players in the transfer market to replace Salah, such as Jarrod Bowen, Anthony Gordon, or Christian Pulisic. Currently, the team is in the Premier League's top four and continues the struggle for a Champions League spot.
