The Uzbekistan national team is entering the final stage of preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ravshan Irmatov, First Vice-President of the UFA, Tribuna.uz responding to a reporter's question, announced that the national team will travel to the training camp in the USA with more players than the final squad limit.
He noted that the Uzbekistan national team will fly to New York on May 26. There, the players will hold an important training camp before the World Cup. During this preparation process, the coaching staff will once again test the team's physical condition, tactical plans, and player chemistry.
According to Ravshan Irmatov, it is planned to take 30 players to the USA camp. This decision was made out of caution and to account for all potential scenarios ahead of the major tournament.
"On May 26, the Uzbekistan national team will fly to New York for a training camp. It is planned to take 30 players to this camp in the USA. As you know, the final roster for the 2026 World Cup is limited to 26 players. We are taking 4 additional players just in case," said Ravshan Irmatov.
According to him, unexpected situations, especially injuries, are always a possibility in football. Therefore, having 4 extra players with the team during the camp in the USA and Canada is considered important. This gives the coaching staff additional flexibility and a safety net when making the final decision.
"God forbid, let there be no injuries, but considering that any unpleasant situation can happen, we will take 4 players to the training camp in the USA and Canada," the UFA official added.
This approach is a correct and logical decision before a major competition like the World Cup. Because in the World Cup, competition, preparation, and backup options for every position are very important. Especially since the Uzbekistan national team is participating in the World Cup for the first time in its history, every small detail is of great importance.
