Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken about his team's Premier League title win after a drought of over twenty years and the psychological changes that fueled this success. Arteta believes the seeds of success were sown long before the season started. According to him, the mental shift during the summer preparation was the main catalyst, rather than heavy spending in the transfer market. "During the pre-season, a week before the game against Manchester United, I gathered all the players and asked what they were willing to do for the team. Their response and unity showed that we had the quality and depth to win any competition," says the coach.
Interestingly, Arteta noted that his belief in the title was strengthened precisely after a defeat against their main rivals, Manchester City. Instead of breaking the team's spirit, this loss proved they were capable of competing at the highest level.
"When we lost to Manchester City, seeing the players' reaction in the dressing room made me think we would be champions. There was pain in their eyes, but they realized we could beat the opponent and that we were better than them. From that moment on, we pursued our goal with even more determination," added Mikel Arteta.
After finishing second for three consecutive seasons, Arsenal finally demonstrated their mental fortitude. Manchester City dropping points against Bournemouth decided the title early, and the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park sparked the celebrations.
