Bayer Leverkusen to replace Kasper Hjulmand with Atletico Madrid legend

Unexpected changes are expected in the Bayer Leverkusen coaching staff. With Kasper Hjulmand's departure almost certain, Atletico Madrid legend Filipe Luis is expected to take his place. According to Sky, negotiations between the club management and the 40-year-old specialist have officially begun and are progressing rapidly. This is reported by Goal.com reports .
Until recently, Filipe Luis managed the Brazilian team Flamengo, winning the Copa Libertadores. The Leverkusen sporting director sees the Brazilian specialist as the primary candidate. Although the club management has other alternatives (Plan B and Plan C), all signs point to Luis's appointment. The official announcement will be made only after the new coach signs the contract.
Kasper Hjulmand took over the team last season after Erik ten Hag was unexpectedly dismissed. Despite his contract running until 2024, the Danish specialist failed to deliver the results expected by the management, and the team missed out on Champions League qualification. Consequently, the club board decided to make changes ahead of the new season.
As a player, Filipe Luis is a world-class star who made 333 appearances for Atletico Madrid and played 44 matches for the Brazil national team. After starting his coaching career, he quickly achieved success with Flamengo, winning the Brazilian league title and the most prestigious tournament in South America, the Copa Libertadores. His arrival in Leverkusen is expected to bring great international experience and a new spirit to the team.
