Barcelona and Bayern Munich battle for Manchester City defender Gvardiol

Barcelona is planning to sign Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window. In addition to negotiating with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, the Catalan club aims to strengthen its defensive line. However, the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from German giants Bayern Munich. This is reported by Goal.com reports .

According to reports, Bayern has already made initial inquiries about bringing the versatile Croatian defender back to Germany. Munich manager Vincent Kompany sees Gvardiol as a primary candidate to solve the team's defensive issues. Especially with Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito struggling with injuries, Gvardiol's transfer has become a priority for the German club.

German football legend Lothar Matthaus also confirmed that Bayern is working on this transfer. In an interview with Sky, he stated: "I heard about a player and inquiries are being made. He played in Leipzig before, currently plays for Manchester City as a left-back and center-back — that is Gvardiol."

Nevertheless, Manchester City is not willing to easily let go of their €90 million signing. Although the 24-year-old defender, who is performing reliably under Pep Guardiola, has a contract running until 2028, the club's management is preparing a new deal to keep him at the team long-term.

For Barcelona, executing this transfer is expected to be financially complex. If the club wants to sign both Gvardiol and Alvarez simultaneously, it will need to seriously regulate its economic situation. For now, both grand clubs remain in contact with the player's representatives.
