Teddy Sheringham supports Liverpool's decision on Arne Slot

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Liverpool's decision to part ways with Arne Slot was correct. He argues that the negative atmosphere within the team posed a serious threat to the club's future. Sheringham warned that if the Dutch manager had remained in his post, the situation would have worsened and the following season could also have been lost. This is reported by Goal.com .
The 2025-26 season ended poorly for Liverpool, with the team finishing fifth in the Premier League table. Having failed to achieve the expected results, the club's management decided to take a new direction. Sheringham emphasized that keeping a coach when trust has been lost is illogical and created a "toxic environment" around the club.
"A big club like Liverpool should not start a season with such uncertainty. If you are 10 points behind the leader after the first 12 rounds, what do you do? It would just be a waste of time. Under Slot, the situation was only getting worse, so a change was necessary," the former footballer added.
Sheringham also criticized Liverpool's actions in the transfer market. In particular, the fact that the team's main target, Xabi Alonso, moved to Chelsea came as a shock to the fans. The expert believes the club's management should have made a quicker decision regarding Slot's future and secured Alonso while he was available.
