Barcelona interested in striker who has not played for months

According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is considering the candidacy of former Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez. The Uruguayan forward, currently under contract with Saudi club Al-Hilol, has unexpectedly appeared on the Catalans' radar. This is reported by Goal.com .

At the moment, Barcelona's management is in negotiations with Al-Hilol regarding the transfer of defender Joao Cancelo. According to reports, during these discussions, the Saudi club also proposed the option of Darwin Núñez. The 26-year-old striker has been left out of the squad since February due to foreign player limits.

Darwin Núñez moved from Liverpool to Al-Hilol last summer for 53 million euros. He managed to record 9 goals and 5 assists in 24 matches for the team. However, following the arrival of Karim Benzema and other stars, he fell out of the squad. According to the Mirror, his contract could be terminated by mutual consent, allowing him to join Barcelona as a free agent.

For Barcelona, the Darwin Núñez option will only become the primary plan if the transfer of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez fails. The Catalans want to bring in the Argentine star to replace Robert Lewandowski, but Atlético Madrid has stated they will not let him go for less than 100 million euros.

Despite financial difficulties, Barcelona has already finalized the transfer of Anthony Gordon for next season. The English midfielder, purchased from Newcastle United for 80 million euros, is expected to boost the team's attacking potential. The Darwin Núñez situation will be clarified in the coming weeks.
