The first reported case of a power port meltdown in the Nvidia RTX 5090 Founders Edition (FE) has surfaced on Reddit. A user described how they were playing Battlefield 5 when they suddenly smelled something burning. Upon inspection, they found that the power connector and the cable connecting the GPU to an Asus power supply had melted. The PSU was also affected.
Notably, the user was not using the stock cable but a third-party alternative. It is speculated that the cable may not have withstood the power load. The user stated that they had used this cable with an RTX 4090 for over two years without any issues. They also confirmed that the connector was properly seated.
Power port issues were previously observed with the RTX 4090, prompting Nvidia to replace the flawed 16-pin 12VHPWR connector with the more reliable 12V-2x6 design. The new RTX 5090 cards use this updated power connector. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
