Windows 11 and 10 receive key security improvements

Windows 11 and 10 receive key security improvements
Microsoft has released major updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10, focusing on strengthening system security and introducing new user-friendly features. The February 2025 update is one of the most significant in recent months, bringing numerous security fixes and functional enhancements to both platforms.

For Windows 11 users (versions 23H2 and 24H2), the update introduces several innovations. One of the key features is automatic tab restoration in File Explorer, allowing users to resume work with open files after a restart without manually restoring the session. This feature can be enabled in settings and is especially useful for those managing large amounts of data.

Devices with Neural Processing Units (NPU) now have quick access to Windows Studio Effects via the taskbar. Noise suppression and background effects for video calls can now be adjusted with a single click. Additionally, taskbar app preview animations have been refined for a smoother user experience.

Gamers will benefit from an improved Auto HDR, which resolves color oversaturation issues in games, leading to enhanced visual clarity. Other fixes include resolving slow shutdown issues when game controllers are connected and addressing incorrect USB camera recognition caused by previous updates.

For Windows 10 (builds 19044.5487 and 19045.5487), the most notable change is the automatic integration of the new Outlook app into the system menu without altering existing email settings. Additionally, a critical virtual memory leak issue that caused crashes in resource-intensive applications has been fixed.

Both updates address 55 security vulnerabilities, including:
CVE-2025-21391 – risk of unauthorized file deletion in Windows storage
CVE-2025-21377 – NTLM hash leakage, potentially compromising user accounts
CVE-2025-21194 – a flaw in the hypervisor that could bypass UEFI security

Experts strongly advise users to install the update as soon as possible due to the high risk of exploitation. Some features, such as File Explorer tab restoration, will be rolled out gradually and may become available over the coming weeks. These updates confirm that Microsoft continues to support Windows 10 alongside Windows 11.
