Roskomnadzor to Reduce Calls on Telegram and WhatsApp

The Russian communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, has announced the introduction of partial restrictions on the call function in the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers. WhatsApp is owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation. This was reported by PravilaMag.

According to the agency’s representatives, such measures are being taken “to combat criminal activity.”

In recent days, messenger users have been reporting widespread issues with making calls. On August 12, services monitoring technical failures recorded more than 10,000 complaints.

Roskomnadzor stated that these measures are temporary but did not rule out possible inconveniences for users.
