Startups are allowed to fly before full certification

eVTOL manufacturers, referring to electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, can now begin conducting test flights in the U.S., TechCrunch reported. This is part of a new pilot program launched by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The program allows these companies to test operations and assess safety in real-world scenarios before completing full certification. It aims to provide a flexible framework for early-stage testing.

According to the FAA, participation in the program is voluntary, and selected companies must operate under specific guidelines. This approach is expected to significantly shorten the time it takes for new aviation technologies to reach the market.
