Despite the fact that sales of Apple’s first iPhone Air model did not meet expectations, the company is actively working on its successor. According to the well-known insider Digital Chat Station, the second generation iPhone Air is in development and significant updates to the design and camera system are expected.
According to reports, the 2026 iPhone lineup will include the iPhone Air 2 (tentatively named iPhone 18 Air), which will retain its ultra-thin and lightweight body. The external appearance of the device will be distinguished by the horizontal camera line characteristic of the first model.
One notable change is the doubling of the number of rear cameras. Apple is currently testing a configuration with two 48-megapixel cameras.
They will mainly include a primary sensor and an ultra-wide lens. The first iPhone Air was only equipped with a single 48-megapixel camera.
The iPhone Air 2 model is expected to feature a 6.5-inch high refresh rate display and advanced 3D face recognition technology. Earlier reports suggested that Apple is preparing new A20 and A20 Pro chips.
If the company follows its traditional strategy, the iPhone Air 2 model will be equipped with the A20 Pro chip, which will significantly improve performance and energy efficiency. According to the current plan, the iPhone Air 2 will be released as part of Apple's 2026 lineup and will be presented alongside flagships such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
At the same time, Apple is also expected to unveil its first foldable smartphone. Other models, such as the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, may enter the market at the beginning of 2027.
