Elon Musk put forward one of the most unusual ideas in human history. According to it, in the future, people will be able to control the amount of radiation reaching Earth from the Sun using artificial satellites. He wrote about this on the X (formerly Twitter) platform, stating that "only with very little change can climate stabilization be achieved."
Musk's concept is based on the idea of Solar Radiation Management (SRM). That is, "smart windows" or special screens are installed between the Earth and the Sun, which maintain the climate balance by blocking or reflecting radiation.
Although this is only a theoretical opinion for now, it has caused great controversy on a global scale. Climatologists consider such a system technically extremely complex and dangerous. They believe that artificially changing solar radiation can disrupt the natural balance on Earth and lead to negative consequences for plants, animals, and the entire ecosystem.
Elon Musk currently operates more than 9,000 Starlink satellites, but they are designed for internet access. And for the sunshielding project, a completely new type of satellite will be needed - with a variable optical coating and "smart" glass.
