Russia confirms design of new supersonic passenger aircraft

The exterior design of a future supersonic passenger aircraft has been approved in Russia. The new liner will feature a sharp, straight nose section and will not be equipped with traditional windshields. Ixbt.com reports on this.

According to GosNIIAS specialist Andrey Popov, flight control will be conducted using special monitors and sensors rather than through direct vision from the cockpit.

The aircraft fuselage is designed with a significantly improved aerodynamic shape. Its nose section will not droop down like those of the "Tu-144" or "Concorde" models.

Nevertheless, side windows will be retained for pilots to monitor ground movement. Standard windows are planned for passengers.

According to the institute, some of the technologies have already been created and tested on special stands. Additionally, these systems have been practically tested on a flight demonstrator based on the "Yak-40" aircraft.
