US updates satellite regulations for SpaceX and Amazon

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the modernization of rules for shared satellite spectrum usage. This was reported by Ixbt.com xabar.

Previous restrictions had limited the power of low-Earth orbit systems, such as Starlink, to protect older satellites in geostationary orbit. These will now be replaced by new protective measures based on modern technology.

According to an FCC statement, the regulations that had been in effect for decades limited operators' ability to provide high-speed services to consumers. This change is aimed at significantly increasing the satellite internet speeds of SpaceX and Amazon.

According to the Commission, this will create the opportunity to increase network throughput by 100-700 percent using the same number of satellites. Additionally, Starlink has announced the launch of its satellite internet service in Gibraltar.
