OpenAI is accelerating the development of its first AI-powered smartphone. According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a customized version of the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 chipset has been selected for the device's hardware. This is reported by Ixbt.com .
Instead of using traditional apps, the new smartphone will act as an intelligent agent that combines local and cloud models. The device will analyze the user's real-time context, processing simple tasks on-device and complex ones on cloud servers.
Technically, the smartphone is expected to be equipped with an advanced ISP system, dual NPU blocks, and LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 memory standards. The chipset will be manufactured using the TSMC N2P process.
OpenAI views this project as one of the key products in preparation for the company's IPO. It is estimated that the smartphone will enter mass production in 2027 and could sell up to 30 million units within two years.
