Google demands $500 for a defective Pixel 9 Pro and refuses to return it
A Reddit user named Ok_Study_592 shared a problematic experience with an official Google service center. They sent their Pixel 9 Pro smartphone for repair due to vertical green lines on the screen, a known factory defect. This was reported by Ixbt.com reports .
This defect is officially acknowledged by Google and falls under the Extended Repair Program. However, the service center unexpectedly refused to repair the smartphone for free. The owner states that the phone shows no signs of impact, water damage, or other external issues.
According to the diagnostic results, Google sent the user an invoice for $489. Interestingly, the system misclassified the fault not as a display defect, but as an issue related to phone calls. Although the user contacted support, they have yet to get the decision reviewed.
Complicating the situation further, Google is refusing to return the smartphone to its owner until the repair fee is paid or the dispute is otherwise resolved. The user announced they will contact US consumer protection agencies regarding this incident.
This incident has sparked further complaints regarding Google's service operations. Many users report facing long and stressful processes with service centers, even in cases covered by warranty.
