Weekend Box Office Directors Are YouTube Stars

The transition from the YouTube platform to the prestigious horror film industry reached its peak this weekend. The top spot in the box office rankings was taken by the film "Backrooms," directed by Kane Parsons. Based on stories about the mysterious office space from the 4chan network, the film earned $38 million on Friday alone. By the end of the weekend, its revenue is expected to reach $80-90 million. This is a record for the independent studio A24. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
The film "Obsession," which took second place in the rankings, is also showing surprising results. Although it collected $8 million on Friday, the film's revenue continues to grow each week. While films typically lose 50-70 percent of their revenue in the second week, "Obsession" has become the first film since 1982 to record growth for three consecutive weeks. The director of this horror film, Curry Barker, also began his career on the YouTube platform with the "Milk & Serial" project.
These successes follow the triumphant run of the film "Iron Lung," presented earlier this year by Mark Fischbach, known by the pseudonym Markiplier. Based on a video game, this film generated $41 million in revenue. Experts believe that the success of creators like Parsons, Barker, and Fischbach is due to the loyal audience they built over years on YouTube, despite their young age.
Currently, Curry Barker has already finished filming his next project, and he is expected to direct a new remake of the famous "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Such a rapid entry of YouTube creators into Hollywood signals the beginning of a new era in the film industry. Viewers and critics highly appreciate the visual style and storytelling ability of this new generation of directors.
