In Uzbekistan, the issue of protecting children from any violence and unacceptable actions is being further strengthened. At the meeting of political party factions in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, this issue once again became the central topic of discussion.
At the meeting, the draft law “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the system for protecting children from violence” was considered. Deputies emphasized that, despite the reforms carried out in recent years to protect children, certain negative cases still do not significantly decrease.
According to the data, in the first eight months of the current year, crimes related to indecent actions against minors increased by 36 percent. This figure causes great concern among specialists and the public.
According to the draft, a number of amendments and additions are being made to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Responsibility. In particular, punishment measures for indecent actions against persons under 16 years of age committed using telecommunication networks and the internet are being toughened.
In addition, the draft law introduces a clear procedure for interrogating children as victims or witnesses. Now the total duration of this process is established not to exceed one day. This is of great importance in preserving the mental state of children. It is also stipulated that their legal representatives or responsible persons must necessarily participate during these procedures.
As noted by faction member Sayyora Imomova: “The draft law plays an important role in protecting the rights and interests of our minor children.”
Based on the proposals expressed during the discussions of the factions, appropriate decisions were adopted to finalize the draft law. According to specialists, such measures will contribute not only to protecting children from various threats and violence, but also to strengthening the sense of responsibility in society.
