Will the construction of a nuclear power plant reduce the cost of electricity in the country?

At the international forum in Moscow, the head of the Uzatom agency, Azim Akhmadkhodjayev, noted that the cost of electricity may decrease as a result of the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country. He believes that after the initial stage of large investments, the cost of producing each kilowatt-hour of power will significantly decrease.

"The higher the capacity, the more optimized the energy production. This will also lead to a decrease in prices for the population and the economy," he said.

However, economist Otabek Bakirov expressed doubt about this opinion. He noted that although the construction of a nuclear power plant is often based on the promise of cheap electricity, in practice, nuclear energy can be more expensive than gas, wind, or hydropower. Therefore, claims about price drops do not have a clear explanation.

For information, construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant has begun in the Farish district of the Jizzakh region. According to the project, it will take at least 7-8 years for the station to be fully operational.

Thus, the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country can contribute to the diversification and sustainability of energy supply. However, discussions about the impact on electricity prices are still ongoing.
