Speed limit on toll roads to be increased to 150 km/h

Speed limit on toll roads to be increased to 150 km/h

Uzbekistan is entering a new stage in its transport system — the country plans to allow speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour on toll roads. This was announced by Hasan Umarov, the Chief Legal Adviser of the Committee for Automobile Roads under the Ministry of Transport, during discussions in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

According to the specialist, the current maximum speed on public roads is set at 90 km/h. Once the new system is implemented, the limit on toll highways will be increased to 150 km/h.

“After the adoption of the new ‘Law on Automobile Roads,’ corresponding changes will also be made to the Traffic Rules. However, the procedure for fines and administrative measures will remain unchanged — they will apply in the same way as on regular roads,” said Hasan Umarov.

It was noted that the toll roads with the new speed limit will be built in accordance with modern safety standards. Separate lanes will be designated for passenger cars and freight transport, which will significantly reduce the risk of dangerous overtaking.

Additionally, the roads will be designed without intersections and traffic lights, ensuring continuous movement. All crossings will be constructed through multi-level bridges and overpasses, which will reduce traffic congestion and make traffic flow smoother.

Experts believe that this change will not only increase speed but also improve time efficiency and economic performance. Modern monitoring systems and radars will be installed to ensure traffic safety.

After the new system is introduced, Uzbekistan’s toll roads are expected to accelerate not only domestic transportation but also international logistics routes.
