Where do Uzbek students prefer to study?

The interest of Uzbek students in studying abroad remains, but their overall number has decreased. According to data from the National Statistics Committee, during January–August 2025, 20.7 thousand citizens went abroad for educational purposes. This figure is 24.6 percent lower compared to last year, official sources reported.

It is noted that young Uzbeks most often choose neighboring Tajikistan for their studies. There, 5,270 of our students are currently studying. In Russia, there are 4,649 students; in Kyrgyzstan — 3,064; in the Republic of Korea — 2,309; and in Turkey — 1,538 Uzbek citizens. In addition, Kazakhstan (874), China (797), the United Kingdom (567), Germany (285), and the United States (256) also remain among the preferred destinations.

Experts believe that young people mainly choose universities in neighboring countries because the admission process is simpler and tuition fees are relatively low. However, in recent years, interest in universities in Korea and Turkey has risen sharply — these countries maintain high positions in international rankings and continue to expand scholarship programs.
