Uzbekistan has taken an important step towards improving the environment and restoring the natural environment. According to the Agency for Waste Management and the Development of a Circular Economy, a total of 47 household waste landfills across the country have been closed. As a result, more than 90 hectares of land have been returned to nature.
According to the information, during 2024-2025, environmental restoration work was carried out in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent, Fergana, and Khorezm regions. The landfills were reclaimed and covered with soil layers.
Work carried out in 2024:
Karakalpakstan - 1 landfill (11 ha),
Andijan - 6 units (14.9 ha),
Bukhara - 1 (0.5 ha),
Kashkadarya - 5 (19.15 ha),
Namangan - 3 (by 5.38 ha),
Samarkand - 1 (2.4 ha),
Tashkent - 3 (9.58 ha),
Fergana - 6 units (17.11 ha),
Khorezm - 1 piece (1 ha).
In 2025, reclamation work was completed at 18 more landfills across the republic. The total area of these territories was 81.68 hectares.
At the same time, restoration work was carried out at 47 out of 185 existing landfills in the country. In the remaining regions, phased environmental measures are also planned.
In addition, 42 waste collection sites were completely closed. This allowed for the return of about 90 hectares of land to the natural ecosystem. Officials emphasized that such work serves not only to protect the environment but also to promote a healthy lifestyle for the population.
This initiative is being implemented on the basis of Decree No. 5 of the President of Uzbekistan dated January 4, 2024. This document is aimed at waste recycling, restoration of natural land areas, and ensuring environmental safety in the country.
According to environmentalists, these changes will not only protect nature but will also stimulate the creation of new green spaces. It has once again been proven that environmental protection is the most reliable way to create a healthy environment for future generations.
