Samarkand territory will expand by 20 hectares, new areas will be built

Samarkand is becoming an even larger city. According to the information provided by the head of the Presidential press service, Sherzod Asadov, a total of 17.5 thousand hectares of land from the districts of Okdaryo, Payariq, Pastdargom, Tayloq and Samarkand will be added to the city’s territory. As a result, the population is expected to increase from 604 thousand to 882 thousand people.

In order to meet the needs of the expanded city, more than 700 multi-storey buildings will be constructed in three large residential areas — “Shirin”, “Temiryul orti” and “Qorasuv-2”, creating modern living conditions for more than 300 thousand residents.

Schools, kindergartens, a hospital, a university, as well as trade and business centers, a hotel, a restaurant and recreation zones are planned to be built in these territories.

In addition, next year 49 regional organizations will be relocated to the “Shirin” residential area. By the end of the year, a 577-meter bridge over “Qoradaryo” will be commissioned, which will make it easier for the new area to connect with the city center.

Together with Spanish investors, the sewage system of these three areas will be completely renewed. To reduce heavy transport traffic, the construction of four logistics centers along the main highway is planned.

This expansion of the city of Samarkand is assessed as an important step aimed at turning the rapidly growing ancient city into a more convenient, modern and opportunity-rich metropolis.
