Security in Uzbekistan at a New Stage: Face Recognition System Will Be Installed in Banks!

A Presidential Decree “On Measures to Effectively Organize the Activities of Internal Affairs Bodies in the Field of Protection” was adopted. With this document, the Main Protection Department of the National Guard was reorganized into the Protection Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The new structure envisages strengthening security in the country by protecting facilities using modern methods and introducing artificial intelligence technologies.

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Control

The Department is entrusted with the task of protecting, on a contractual basis, objects of state importance, particularly important facilities, educational institutions, as well as the property of physical and legal entities using modern methods. The main focus is on widely involving digital tools and artificial intelligence technologies in protection activities, and strengthening internal order and control regimes at protected facilities.

Mandatory "Face ID" from 2026

The decree specifically notes that from January 1, 2026, technical means capable of identifying individuals, meaning face recognition systems, will be gradually installed at the entry and exit points of protected banks, large enterprises, and local administration buildings. These measures are aimed at increasing the effectiveness of protection services and the level of security, and strengthening control based on modern digital technologies.
