More than 1,200 fake driver’s licenses identified

A criminal group engaged in issuing fake driver’s licenses over the course of one year has been uncovered. The investigation revealed that one employee of the Public Services Center was involved in the illegal activity. They prepared forged documents for 72 citizens, earning a total of 616 million soums in illegal income.

The criminal group issued driver’s licenses using two methods. In the first case, old-type driver’s licenses were handmade for 500–1,000 US dollars and later exchanged for new ones through bribery. In the second method, fake certificates and QR codes were prepared on behalf of traffic safety departments for amounts of up to 10,000 US dollars.

These forged documents were submitted to district Public Services Centers, where driver’s licenses were issued through unlawful actions of officials. As a result of additional inspections conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office in the regions, more than 1,200 additional fake driver’s licenses were identified.

All driver’s licenses obtained on the basis of forged documents have now been cancelled. The issue of criminal liability is being considered for those who forged the documents, as well as for citizens who knowingly purchased them.
